SINGAPORE – Oman’s Ministry of Oil and Gas has approved Masirah Oil’s development plan for the offshore Yumna oil field in block 50, also awarding a declaration of commerciality.
The latter will allow Masirah to fully develop the field while continuing to explore elsewhere on the block.
Under an early production test, the field is currently producing more than 8,000 b/d through the Yumna 1 well. This has to date delivered more than 1 MMbbl, with three cargoes of crude lifted and sold between April and Jun via Oman’s first offshore ship-to-ship transfers.
At the end of April, Masirah released the jackup Foresight Driller IX, with production subsequently re-started from a mobile offshore production unit (MOPU) installed on the field during a three-week shutdown.
The MOPU and an Aframax storage tanker now comprise the permanent offshore production facilities.
