ABERDEEN, UKRepsol Sinopec Resources UK has submitted its environmental statement for development of the Tain field the UK central North Sea.

Tain, in block 13/23b (license P.983) is northwest of the Blake Flank field and is thought to contain 60-120 MMbbl, with a recovery factor in the range 10%-20%.

According to the company, it is a geologically upthrown fault block extension of the Blake flank, containing the same sand developments (Captain, Coracle C, and Coracle B). Samples acquired from well 13/23b-5z exhibit similar reservoir fluid properties to those at Blake.

The company plans a two-well tieback to the FPSO Bleo Holm positioned over the Ross field in block 13/28a, via a new 19-km (11.8-mi) pipeline, associated gas lift line and control/chemical injection umbilical.

Initial production rates from each well should be 4,000 b/d of dry oil, with water production potentially up to 2,500 b/d.

Drilling could start in 1Q 2022, with each well estimated to take up to 100 days, while installation of the subsea infrastructure, including pipeline, umbilical, manifold, subsea isolation valve, production and umbilical riser replacement, could begin in June or July that year.

The FPSO would need to undergo some modifications to accommodate Tain’s production fluids. These would include a new dedicated electric power unit for subsea power and communications for Tain; a new hydraulic power unit (HPU) or use of the existing Ross HPU; new chemical injection equipment; and replacement of a multiphase flow meter in the turret.
