ZWIJNDRECHT, Belgium – DEME Offshore’s Sea Challenger has installed 174 SWT-7.0 MW turbines at the Hornsea One offshore wind farm, 120 km (75 mi) off the Yorkshire coast.
Following a commissioning period, it will be officially inaugurated in 2020 as the world’s largest offshore wind farm, according to Ørsted.
Once complete, the site will be the world’s first offshore wind farm to be able to generate more than 1 GW of electricity – enough to power over 1 million UK homes.
Ørsted owns 50% of the 1.2-GW Hornsea One offshore wind farm and divested 50% to Global Infrastructure Partners in 2018.
