OSLO, Norway — Aker BP has made a small gas discovery in the Ferdinand nord prospect in the Barents Sea.
This was the first well on production license 1170, awarded under Norway’s Awards in Predefined Areas in 2022 (APA 2021) bid round.
According to the Norwegian Offshore Directorate, early analysis suggests 3.3 MMboe to 4.7 MMboe recoverable. The licensees are assessing this, other discoveries and prospects in the area for a future potential area-wide development.
Well 7324/6-2, drilled by the semisub Scarabeo 8 in 422 m water depth, encountered a 12-m gas column in the Stø Formation in two sandstone layers and a 6-m gas column in the Snadd Formation.
The well has since been permanently plugged and abandoned.
