PORT STANLEY, Falkland Islands -- Desire Petroleum has secured regulatory and partner approvals to drill the 14/15-2 Rachel North well in the North Falkland basin.

The 14/15-1 Rachel well had to be prematurely abandoned. The semisubOcean Guardian is waiting on weather to move to the Rachel North location.

Desire says the new well will be drilled vertically, with an estimated TD of 3,050 m (10,006 ft), with a bottomhole location 1.7 km (1.06 mi) from the Rachel sidetrack 14/15-1Z bottomhole. Drilling operations should last around 35 days.

This latest well has been designed to evaluate the sands with oil shows encountered in the Rachel side track, and numerous other possible sands not evidenced in the side track.
