PERTH, Western Australia -- Woodside Petroleum has scored a second gas discovery in quick succession off Western Australia, this time in permit WA-404-P in the Carnarvon basin.
The Larsen Deep-1 well intersected around 50 m (164 ft) of gross gas over several zones within the Triassic target. Currently the well is at 4,914 m, with a planned TD of 5,030 m (16,502 ft).
Post-drilling, the contractor plans to start wireline logging to obtain pressure and gas samples.
Larsen Deep-1 is within 9 km (5.6 mi) of Woodside’s Central hub discoveries at Martell-1, Noblige-1, and Larsen-1. Woodside is operator and 50% equity owner of the permit, in partnership with Hess Exploration (Carnarvon).
