HOUSTON – Talos Energy has issued an update on drilling operations in its interest in the Gulf of Mexico.
In Mexico’s offshore block 2 (Talos 25%), the Acan-1EXP well has reached TD after encountering a non-commercial gas reservoir in two shallow zones. The partners decided to P&A the well and the jackup has since mobilized to the northeast to drill Yaluk-1EXP, the second well on the block.
Drilling of the Olmeca-1 well in offshore block 31 (Talos 25%) should start during the second half of 2019. The 2019 campaign is designed to evaluate the potential indicated by the nearby Xaxamani-1: if successful, a final investment decision on a development could follow in 2020.
In the US sector production through the Talos-operated Phoenix complex, comprising the Typhoon, Boris and Tornado fields, assets, recently reached 47 MMboe/d following the completion and connection of two new subsea wells, Tornado 3 and Boris 3.
An initial test well on the Orlov prospect (Talos 30%) in Green Canyon block 200 has reached TD, encountering around 100 ft (30.5 m) of net true vertical thickness oil pay in the main objective, plus hydrocarbons in two shallower zones along the same trap.
Operator Fieldwood Energy has suspended the well. The partners will now assess the results and determine the way forward for development.
Finally, the drillship Noble Don Taylor has spudded the Bulleit prospect in Green Canyon block 21 - earlier this year, Talos became operator of the block after signing a participation agreement with a subsidiary of EnVen Corp. If the well is successful, it will be completed and tied back to the Talos-owned and -operated Green Canyon 18 facility 10 mi (16 km), part of the company’s Whistler Energy acquisition in 2018.
