Petrobras has confirmed that an exploration well in the presalt Campos Basin offshore Brazil has encountered hydrocarbons.
Well 1-BRSA-1394-RJS was drilled in 575 m of water in the Norte de Brava Block, which is 105 km from the Rio de Janeiro state shoreline. It has been completed and is undergoing final wireline loggings.
A combination of electrical logs, gas shows and fluid sampling revealed the hydrocarbon-bearing interval, and they will be dispatched for laboratory analysis. Operations will continue to complete all planned tasks up to the final depth and to characterize the conditions of the reservoirs to assess the potential volumes and inform follow-up exploration in the area.
Petrobras was awarded the Norte de Brava Block in December 2022 under the 1st Cycle of the Open Acreage in the Production-Sharing bid round, organized by the ANP.
