Songa Mercur rig heads to Cuba

Songa Offshore’s drilling rig Songa Mercur left its recent base in Trinidad last week to begin mobilization to Cuban waters.

LIMASSOL, Cyprus – Songa Offshore’s drilling rig Songa Mercur left its recent base in Trinidad last week to begin mobilization to Cuban waters.

It is currently undergoing preparations to start itsexploration drilling contract for Zarubezhneft.

Songa Offshore has agreed to sell the ultra-deepwater semisubmersibleSonga Eclipse to Seadrill for net sale proceeds of $590 million. Delivery is expected to take place in December.

The rig was delivered by Jurong Shipyard in Singapore last year, and currently operates for Total offshore Angola on a contract due to end in December 2013. Total has three one-year options for extending the contract.
