ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan – Dragon Oil has awarded separate contracts for lease and management of two 2,000 HP platform-based (land) rigs for its Cheleken Contract Area (CCA) development offshore Turkmenistan.
The contracts last for two years with an option to extend for a further year.
Land Rig 1 will be rigged up on the Dzhygalybeg (Zhdanov) A platform when this new facility is ready to start drilling in 1Q 2013.
Land Rig 2 will be mobilized for drilling from the new Dzhygalybeg (Zhdanov) B platform, expected to be ready in 2Q 2013.
Recently, a jackup on another platform completed drilling and initial testing of theDzheitune (Lam) A/176 development well. It was completed as a single producer to a depth of 1,786 m (5,860 ft) and tested 1,462 b/d of oil. Deeper sections will be targeted when the well is deepened at a later date.
The jackup rig is currently drilling the Dzheitune (Lam) A/177 development well.
Dragon has also started thefirst phase of its strategy to P&A and decommission the CCA’s old non-producing wells and non-producing platforms.
It has identified groups of wells based on their status and age. In the first phase, up to 15 non-producing wells will likely be tested for productivity before being completely P&A’d.
Dragon has awarded a contract to a specialist offshore contractor.
