SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy – Eni has a new natural gas discovery at the Mamba North East 1 exploration prospect in Area 4 offshore Mozambique.
The Mamba North East 1Â discovery reached TD of 4,560 m (14,960 ft) 50 km (31 mi) off the Capo Delgado coast in a water depth of 1,848 m (6,063 ft). The well was drilled approximately 15 km (9 mi) north east of theMamba South 1 discovery and 12 km (7.5 mi) south west of the Mamba North 1 discovery.
The discovery well encountered a total of 240 m (790 ft) of gas pay in multiple high-quality Oligocene and Eocene sands. The well proved reservoir continuity and pressure communication with Mamba South 1 and Mamba North 1 wells.
During 2012 Eni plans to drill at least another four wells in nearby structures to fully assess the upside potential of the Mamba Complex. Eni estimates the potential to be at least 40 tcf (1.1 tcm) of gas in place.
Eni is the operator of Area 4 with a 70% participating interest. Co-owners in the area are Galp Energia (10%), KOGAS (10%), and ENH (10%, carried through the exploration phase).
