    Rosneft reports extended-reach record for Chayvo well offshore Sakhalin

    Rosneft has started production from the northern tip of the Chayvo field offshore Sakhalin Island, eastern Russia.

    MOSCOW – Rosneft has started production from the northern tip of the Chayvo field offshore Sakhalin Island, eastern Russia.

    The company claims a new industry record for anextended-reach well drilled from shore, with a drilled depth of 10,825 m (35,515 ft) and a horizontal displacement of 9,517 m (31,223 ft).

    The shore-basedYastreb land rig is drilling the second well, which will be around 11,000 m (36,089 ft) long. The company says it plans a cluster of five wells.

    Rosneft head Igor Sechinthat said northernChayvo contains more than 15 million tons of oil and around 13 bcm (459 bcf) of gas. It will become a primary resource base for Russia’s Far Eastern LNG plant.

    He added thatdrilling of a first well will start soon from the recently installed Berkut platform in the Sea of Okhotsk.
