STAVANGER, Norway – Gas detected in a mud processing unit upon startup of a closed-in well at Gullfaks South called for an uneventful crew muster. The incident has kicked off an investigation into what happened, says Statoil.
The Deepsea Atlantic rig remains on the gas and condensate discovery well 34/10-53 inasmuch as the situation was contained and the circumstances clarified. Work on the well has resumed.
Statoil says that the well was closed in for a week due to bad weather. When the BOP was opened again and mud circulated, gas registered in the mud. The control system closed the well back in without other incident and circulation has been re-established.
