MELBOURNE, Australia – The Ocean Rig Athena has spudded the deepwater SNE 4 appraisal well offshore Senegal for operator Cairn Energy.
According to partner FAR, the location is 5 km (3.1 mi) southeast of theSNE-1 discovery well.
The main goals are to intersect a potentially significant reservoir in the oil leg; acquire reservoir information from all units to investigate lateral variability/connectivity; and to increase the field’s contingent resource base.
SNE-4, in 940 m (3,084 ft) water depth, will be drilled to 3,020 m (9,908 ft) TVD. Drilling and logging should take around four weeks to complete.
FAR says the partners are considering adding two more wells for the next phase of evaluation.
