PERTH, Australia – Carnarvon Energy expects the jackup Noble Tom Prosser to complete its current operations in the Carnarvon basin off Western Australia in mid-January.

The rig should then mobilize to the Pavo-1 well location in the Bedout basin, with drilling likely to start by late-January.

Pavo-1, operated by Santos, will target the main Caley to Crespin interval, similar to the section intersected in the nearby Dorado oil field.

Drilling will likely continue to a deeper section to provide geological information on two further intervals, supporting analysis of the little explored basin’s wider potential.

The Pavo-1 well should take around two months to complete, with the rig then transferring 20 km (12 mi) to the southwest to drill the Apus-1 well, targeting the Caley and Milne intervals.

Carnarvon estimates potential recoverable resources from Pavo at 82 MMbbl of liquids and 108 bcf of gas, while Apus could hold 235 MMbbl and 408 bcf recoverable.
