LONDON – The semisubmersible Stena Don has spudded an appraisal well on the Anchois gas field in the Lixus license offshore Morocco for Chariot.

The rig will drill the Anchois-2 gas appraisal and exploration well and re-enter the Anchois-1 gas discovery well. Drilling is expected to take up to 40 days.

The objectives of the Anchois-2 well are to confirm the gas resource volumes, reservoir quality and well productivity; provide a future production well for the field development; and deepen the appraisal well into additional low-risk exploration targets with the aim of establishing a larger resource base for longer-term growth.

The objectives of the Anchois-1 well re-entry are to assess the integrity of the previously drilled well; evaluate the productivity and gas characteristics of the discovered A Gas Sand; and provide a second future production well for the field development.

Chariot is the operator and has a 75% interest in Lixus, and the Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines holds a 25% interest.
