MOSCOW – Lukoil’s first exploration well on block 12 offshore Mexico has discovered oil.
The semisubmersible Valaris DPS-5 (ex-Valaris 8505) drilled the Yoti West-1 EXP well in 207 m (679 ft) of water and 60 km (37 mi) offshore. The well penetrated a sand reservoir in Upper Miocene sediments with high permeability and effective oil-saturated thickness of about 25 m (82 ft).
Lukoil estimates in-place oil at 250 MMbbl.
An assessment plan for the Yoti West field is planned to be developed based on drilling results, the company said.
The block 12 joint venture consists of Lukoil Upstream Mexico (operator, 60%) and Eni (40%).
