SUBIACO, Australia – Empyrean Energy aims to spud the LH 17-2-1 exploration well on the Jade prospect offshore China in December.

CNOOC EnerTech-Drilling & Production has initiated the process of securing drilling permits, and is working with China Oilfield Services Ltd. on verification of wellhead and casing specifications and other matters. The company is also preparing an emergency response plan for safe drilling operations.

Jade is in block 29/11 in the Pearl River Mouth basin, 200 km (124 mi) southeast of Hong Kong.

Although Empyrean has a 100% interest in the exploration phase, CNOOC has a back in right to a 51% controlling interest for the development and production phase.
