LONDONEnergean has contracted the drillship Stena IceMAX for a multi-well campaign offshore Israel in 2022-23.

The program comprises three firm wells and two optional wells, with the first firm well likely to spud in 1Q 2022. Energean is looking to de-risk prospective recoverable resources of more than 1 Bboe.

The line-up includes:

  • Karish North development well – re-entry, side tracking, and completion of the previously drilled Karish North well and completion as a producer. The well should commercialize 1.2 tcf of gas and 31 MMbbl of liquids, and should come onstream in H2 2023.
  • Karish Main-04 appraisal well, targeting further prospective volumes within the Karish Main block, including a possible oil rim that was identified during drilling of the KM-03 development well. Potential recoverable volumes of 166 MMboe.
  • Athena exploration well in block 12, in between the Karish and Tanin leases. Athena could hold 700 bcf and 4 MMbbl of liquids recoverable. Success at Athena could de-risk around 2.5 tcf and 19 MMbbl of remaining prospective recoverable volumes in block 12 and Tanin.

Secondly, the more proximate location of the potential development to the expected location of the FPSO Energean Power is also expected to reduce like-for-like development costs when compared with Tanin.

Stena Drilling managed Energean’s previous three-well development drilling program and the 243-MMboe Karish North discovery during 2019-2020.
