MELBOURNE, Australia – FAR has contracted the drillship Stena IceMAX for the Bambo-1 exploration well offshore The Gambia.

Operations are due to start between October and Nov. 30.  The well will target three prospects with combined prospective resources of 1,118 MMbbl.

Soloo is an extension of hydrocarbon-bearing reservoirs in the adjacent Sangomar oil field offshore Senegal.

Bambo and Soloo Deep are thought to have a lower chance of success, but higher volume of hydrocarbons.

FAR has based applied learnings from its involvement in the 11 successful wells drilled off Senegal and the Samo-1 well drilled off The Gambia in 2018. The company has a 50% operated interest in the A2 and A5 permits in partnership with Petronas subsidiary PC Gambia.

If Bambo-1 leads to a commercial discovery, a standalone development could follow which would also provide The Gambia’s first oil production.

Long-lead items for the well have been ordered and tendering and contracting for other services is under way. Exceed Energy in Aberdeen will provide the engineering and wells management team.

Drilling should last around 30 days with a planned depth of 3,266 m (10,715 ft), in a water depth of 993 m (3,258 ft). The location is 85 km (53 mi) offshore and 500 m (1,640 ft) south of the Senegal-Gambia border.
