LONDON – Deltic Energy and Shell have committed to drill the Pensacola gas prospect in the UK southern North Sea, and have communicated their decision to the Oil and Gas Authority.

Pensacola, in license P2252, is in a Zechstein reef play which if successful could revitalize exploration in the basin, Deltic said.

Re-interpretation of new 3D seismic acquired over the prospect suggests P50 resources of 309 bcf, with a P90-P10 range of 39-1,181 bcf.

The review has also improved the geological chance of success associated with drilling, from 20% to 55%.

Shell expects to start drilling in May 2022, using a rig the company plans to contract for a multi-well campaign.
