OSLO, NorwayLundin Energy has made a small oil discovery close to its Solveig field development in the central Norwegian North Sea.

The semisubmersible West Bollsta drilled well 16/4-13 S in 100 m (328 ft) of water on production license 359, 15 km (9.3 mi) south of the Edvard Grieg field complex.

According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, the well penetrated a 10-m (33-ft) oil column in conglomerate sandstone in Triassic-Palaeozoic rocks, and an oil/water contact 1,950 m (6,397 ft) below the sea surface.

Initial analysis indicates 0.5-1.4 MMcmoe recoverable oil equivalent. The licensees will assess the discovery a potential tie-in to the Solveig subsea facilities.

The West Bollsta will next drill production well 16/4-BA-1H on Solveig in the same license.
