BHP, Equinor, MOL contract Transocean rigs

Transocean Ltd. has issued an update on its offshore drilling rig fleet.

STEINHAUSEN, Switzerland – Transocean Ltd. has issued an update on its offshore drilling rig fleet.

As of Feb. 12, the company’s total backlog is about $7.8 billion.

Petrobras has exercised a 680-day option for the drillship Deepwater Corcovado in Brazil. The contract is expected to end in July 2023. The day rate is $194,000.

The company also exercised an 815-day option for the drillship Deepwater Mykonos in Brazil. The contract is expected to end in August 2023. The day rate is $213,000.

The drilling contractor said both ultra-deepwater drillships spent 21 days out of service in 1Q 2021.

Shell has awarded the semisubmersible Development Driller III a one-well contract extension in Trinidad. The day rate is $250,000. Also, BHP Billiton has awarded the semi a one-well contract, plus a one-well option in Trinidad. The day rate is $220,000. It is expected to start this contract in June 2021.

Equinor has awarded the harsh environment semisub Transocean Norge a one-well contract in Norway. The contract is expected to start in April with a day rate of $294,000.

MOL Norge has awarded the harsh environment semi Transocean Barents a three-well contract in Norway. The contract is expected to start in May with a day rate of $270,000.

Chrysaor Production has awarded the harsh environment semi Paul B Loyd, Jr. a 78-day contract extension in the UK North Sea.

Reliance has exercised a seven-well option for the ultra-deepwater drillship Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1 in India. The contract is expected to end in November 2022.

In November, Petronas provided notice of termination for the ultra-deepwater semi Deepwater Nautilus’ contract in Malaysia. The drilling contractor said it believes the purported notice of early termination is not valid and is pursuing applicable remedies.

The Deepwater Nautilus and the ultra-deepwater drillship Deepwater Asgard were classified as idle.

It has also stacked the ultra-deepwater semi GSF Development Driller I.

In addition, the company has retired the semisub Leiv Eiriksson. The rig is classified as held for sale.
