RIO DE JANEIRO – Petrobras has discovered oil with its first well on the Uirapuru block in the presalt Santos basin offshore Brazil.
The well on the Araucária prospect was drilled in 1,995 m (6,545 ft) of water, 200 km (124 mi) offshore the city of Santos, encountering oil in porous reservoirs.
Petrobras and its partners ExxonMobil, Equinor, and Galp plan to analyze the well data to assess the potential of the discovery and other exploratory activities in the area.
They were awarded the Uirapuru block in the 'Pre-salt Polygon’ area under Brazil’s 4th Production Sharing Round in June 2018.
