Offshore staff
NASSAU, Bahamas – Bahamas Petroleum Co. (BPC) is preparing to spud its first exploration well offshore the Bahamas, Perseverance #1.
The location is on the northern segment of the ‘B megastructure’. BPC is targeting a prospective recoverable oil resource at this location of 767 MMbbl, with upside of 1.444 Bbbl.
BPC selected the well location based on analysis of high-resolution 3D seismic data, identifying a better developed top seal and reservoir characteristics at this crestal point on the northern segment of the 400-sq km (154-sq mi) B structure.
A discovery could extend into a larger portion of the overall structure extending to the southeast. The entire structure could contain more than 2 Bbbl, the company added.
Perseverance #1 will be drilled in 518 m (1,700 ft) of water to a TD of 4,822 m (15,820 ft), but this could be extended to 5,600 m (18,372 ft) in order to assess multiple reservoir horizons throughout the entire stratigraphic column below the Tertiary cover.
That, however, will depend on real-time drilling results and geological data.
BPC has established a temporary field office in Houston to manage and support drilling and well operations. The team includes individuals experienced in managed pressure drilling, and well services contractor Halliburton has integrated staff into the company’s drilling execution team.
OSRL will test/verify incident response systems and procedures prior to spudding of the well.
BPC will shortly inspect the proposed rig that Seadrill is supplying while it is in port for class certification ahead of committing to a definitive rig contract.
In parallel, the company has placed long-lead orders for casing and drill bits and will shortly wrap up contracts for supply vessels and helicopter services.
