DALLAS – BP and its partners have proven a southern extension of the Yakaar gas field in Senegal’s Cayar Offshore Profond block.
The Yakaar-2 appraisal well, drilled in 2,500 m (8,202 ft) of water by the drillship Valaris DS-12, 9 km (5.6 mi) from the Yakaar-1 location, intersected 30 m (98.4 ft) of net gas pay in similar quality Cenomanian reservoir to the discovery well.
According to partner Kosmos Energy, the result re-affirms its view that the Yakaar-Teranga resource base in the block is sufficient to support an LNG project, supplying gas both to domestic and export markets.
Kosmos anticipates a phased development of Yakaar-Teranga, Phase 1 providing domestic gas and data to optimize future phases.
The Valaris DS-12 rig will next drill the Orca-1 exploration well off Mauritania for BP.
