Petronas, via Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), has signed two memoranda of understanding (MoU) at the ADIPEC event this week in Abu Dhabi.
The first, with Schlumberger WTA (Malaysia), relates to improving the technical capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and generative AI technologies.
The goal is to integrate AI-driven solutions into MPM’s data platform, to overhaul management and interpretation of subsurface data.
Results should support the Malaysian offshore operations of emerging Petroleum Arrangement Contractors.
The other MoU, with Velesto Drilling and NOV, establishes the basis for deploying NOV’s drilling automation system and robotics technology on Velesto’s rigs. The partnership will look to optimize drilling operations through efficiency measures and lowering costs, and to foster innovative solutions across Malaysia's upstream sector.
Petronas also revealed it has lifted Force Majeure on gas supplies to the Malaysia LNG Dua facility at the Bintulu LNG complex in Sarawak.
This follows commissioning of the offshore Jerun and Kasawari fields, both of which can now provide a reliable stream of feed gas to the facility.
