Equinor has contracted Aker Solutions to modify the topside of the Troll A platform in the North Sea to receive increased production from the Troll West gas reservoir.
The Troll field, 80 km northwest of Bergen, supplies 10% of Europe’s gas needs. The present Troll Phase 3 development is designed to produce the gas cap overlying the oil column in Troll West, while also sustaining oil production.
Extracted gas heads initially to Troll A and from there through existing offshore transport infrastructure.
Aker Solutions’ EPCIC work on the topside will prepare Troll A for receiving and processing gas from eight new wells at Troll West.
Phase 1, completed in 2021, involved adding a new module on the platform to handle Troll West’s gas. For that phase, Aker Solutions delivered the topside modification and also the subsea systems.
For Phase 3, the company will also prepare and install equipment for cleanup of the initial well fluids during startup of the wells, and it will have lead responsibility for the interfaces between the various project contractors.
The company’s division in Stavanger will perform project management, detail engineering, procurement and shop engineering with support from branches in Bergen and Mumbai.
Egersund will manage construction and prefabrication, and OneSubsea (Aker Solutions 20%) is responsible for the new subsea production system.
All work should be completed at the end of 2027.
