Saipem has pre-qualified for EPCC works for Mellitah Oil & Gas’ Production Platform E, part of the planned $8 billion Structures A&E development in the Mediterranean Sea offshore Libya.

Last week Saipem pre-qualified for EPCC works for Mellitah Oil & Gas’ Production Platform E, part of the planned $8 billion Structures A&E development in the Mediterranean Sea offshore Libya.

Mellitah Oil & Gas is a joint venture between Eni and Libya’s National Oil Company. The project is designed to increase gas production to 750 MMcf/d, for use in Libya and in exports to Europe.

The invitation for pre-qualification for the engineering, procurement, construction, hookup, commissioning and startup of Production Platform E started earlier this year.

Giorfio Elia, Saipem’s managing director of North East Africa & Cyprus, said this will be one of the biggest production platforms anywhere in the Mediterranean Sea, weighing more than 60,000 t and with one of the industry’s largest jackets to date.

The company made its announcement during the Libya-Italy Roundtable and VIP Networking Event in Rome.

Eni also highlighted progress on the current Bouri Gas Utilization Project; this will recover hydrocarbons from associated gas at two platforms on the offshore Bouri field, with an associated carbon capture facility.

Another 100-MMcf/d gas production project is due to start operations in 2025.
