CAMBRIDGE, Mass/SINGAPORETenneT has awarded GE Vernova and Seatrium a third contract for the construction of a 2-GW high-voltage direct current (HVDC) electric offshore transmission system in the Netherlands.

Work is due to start this month, with commissioning anticipated in 2031.

The latest award, for Nederwiek 2, follows the contracts for IJmuiden Ver Beta and IJmuiden Ver Gamma, both issued to the GE Vernova/Seatrium consortium in March 2023. Nederwiek 2 is located about 95 km from the coast of the Netherlands.

GE Vernova's Grid Solutions will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of the HVDC converter stations.

Seatrium’s scope of work will include the engineering, procurement, construction, transportation, installation and commissioning of the offshore converter platform.
