ABERDEEN, UK — The Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC) has opened a call for innovations to facilitate rigless plugging and abandonment (P&A) operations.

“Go Radical P&A” is a partnership with Energy Transition Norway, the Danish Offshore Technology Centre, the Centre of Decommissioning Australia and the Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada.

According to the NZTC, solutions are needed to support cost-efficient, environmentally sensitive, and compliant decommissioning of wells, while also addressing technical challenges such as accessing the wellbore without a drilling rig.

The call is in connection with NZTC’s Well Decommissioning Collaboration initiative, supported by the Technology Leadership Board, North Sea Transition Authority, and Offshore Energies UK. This initiative seeks to test new technologies in multi-operator collaboration field trials, encouraging wider industry adoption in the UK and beyond.

Successful applicants will be able to connect with consortium members such as ConocoPhillips, Harbour Energy, Petrobras, Repsol and TotalEnergies, with potential support for developing, trialing and testing technologies.

There will also be opportunities to engage with similar operator consortia in Norway, Denmark, Australia and Canada.

The deadline for applications is May 31, 2024, via https://www.netzerotc.com/call-for-well-pa-solutions/.
