HOUSTON --Schlumberger has released Petrel 2007.1, which includes new functionality for all disciplines in the exploration and development workflow.

New seismic performance and scalability in Petrel 2007.1 is designed to improve the productivity of exploration teams. Tighter integration of reservoir engineering workflows introduces simulation earlier, leading to better reservoir performance prediction, the company says. Real-time data connections from the rig to the office, increase operational accuracy.

Other Petrel 2007.1 highlights include enhanced seismic performance, handling and scalability for data sets up to 60 gigabytes on the desktop, and terabyte data sets on a Linux cluster server.

Additional capabilities include fractured reservoir modeling and ECLIPSE reservoir simulation dual porosity models; multi-segmented well support; and real-time data feeds for well logs, events, and trajectories.

The graphical user interface has been updated to Microsoft.NET.

"The enhanced seismic performance in Petrel 2007.1 provides a quantum leap in productivity for our exploration teams," says Alan Clare, geological manager, Apache Egypt.

"In a recent test on Petrel, we accurately auto tracked a horizon on a 40 gigabyte data set in 16 seconds that took nearly two minutes in the 2005 version."
