LONDON�Egypt's Burullus Gas Co. joint venture has awarded the Egyptian Deepwater Development Consortium a $56 million contract for the engineering, manufacture, testing, and delivery of a deepwater subsea production system for the Scarab/Saffron development project in the eastern Mediterranean, EDDC participant Kværner AS said Thursday.
The work to be undertaken by EDDC, a tie-up between Anglo-Norwegian contracting group Kværner Oilfield Products and US firm Cooper Cameron Corp., will involve tying back the two offshore fields 90 km to a shore terminal "with no facilities above the waterline."
Under the contact, EDDC will be responsible for project management, engineering, and the supply of manifolds, christmas trees, wellheads, controls, connection systems, intervention equipment, integration testing, and installation support at Scarab/Saffron, part of the West Delta Deep Marine Concession.
According to Kværner, eight wells will be drilled initially as part of the project, with the option for further expansion later.
The project team will be headquartered at Kværner�s office in London.
Burullus Gas Co. is a JV between BG International PLC, Edison Co., and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corp.
