ABERDEEN, UK  Odfjell Technology claims to have cut the typical time spent cleaning a BOP offshore by 50% during a trial on one of the Equinor-operated Johan Sverdrup platforms in the Norwegian North Sea.

The overall program was designed to increase the pump rate to allow more water to flow into the BOP cavities to support debris removal.

During the trial, the annular and variable rams were flushed with two passes at the new recommended flow rates to remove debris, with the BOP stack then flushed at the same rate using Odfjell Technology’s RizeRdillo Advanced Jetting Tool.

Flow rates rose from 1,500 to 5,500 liters/min flushing the annular and from 3,000 to 5,500 l/min while flushing the BOP.

Results showed that no damage had occurred to the BOP and annular with the recommended pump rates, and that the new procedure could save 6 to 12 hours of operating time.

RizeRdillo is said to enable higher pump flow rates, with a larger volume of fluid and lower pump pressure.
