MUSCAT, Oman—Masirah Oil Ltd. (MOL) has issued a further update on its facilities overhaul program at the Yumna oil field in Block 50 offshore Oman.
The flowline has been replaced and production from the field restored. Other recent change-outs of the floating storage tanker and mobile offshore production unit have provided new facilities that should remain in service until the end of Yumna’s producing life.
However, there have been unexpected operational issues caused by a faulty electric submersible pump (ESP). MOL needed to identify the problems with this and the flowline, and then start rectification measures after procuring the required replacement parts, equipment and crew.
At the same time, the company had to manage the impact of bad weather and managing safety concerns around a rigid installation procedure.
It continues to monitor the performance on the ESP and may bring in a replacement to coincide with the next exploration/development drilling campaign in October/November.
