Guyana’s government has told CGX Energy and its partner Frontera Energy that it plans to terminate their petroleum prospecting license for the offshore Corentyne Block.

Guyana’s government has told CGX Energy and its partner Frontera Energy that it plans to terminate their petroleum prospecting license for the offshore Corentyne Block.

In a letter sent to the partners, the government also states that it sees no reasonable grounds to grant extensions concerning their appraisal or exploration obligations under the license or the Petroleum Agreement.

However, it has invited the partners to submit any representations by Feb. 22 that it might consider prior to taking a final decision on the license.

In addition, the government is prepared to extend the deadline date to allow for receipt and consideration of any representation the partnership may submit.

Frontera/CGX said that in their view, the license for the block remains in place and the Petroleum Agreement has not been terminated. They plan to assess all legal options prior to responding to the government.

The Corentyne Block includes the Kawa and Wei discoveries.
