PG Renewables created to enable construction of offshore infrastructure for marine renewables sector
What is a UXO?
An unexploded ordnance (UXO) is an explosive weapon (e.g., bombs, shells, grenades, mines and other munitions) that did not explode when it was deployed, and therefore poses a risk of detonation. These remnants can remain hazardous for decades after their initial use or disposal, posing safety risks to humans (e.g., accidental detonation) and the environment (e.g., contamination).
The Pritchard-Gordon (PG) group of companies has launched PG Renewables, a turnkey contractor providing offshore and nearshore UXO identification and clearance services to the marine renewables markets.
The company's services aim to reduce risk and optimize productivity for offshore wind farm developers within the UK and Europe, offering explosive ordinance disposal (EOD) specialists, low and high order techniques, and what it claims is the only remote ordnance lifting system to be proven at scale.
PG Renewables has secured the experience of UXO and EOD solutions provider EORCA UK on an exclusive basis, allowing them to provide a range of EOD equipment and EOD supervisors, technicians and divers.
PG Renewables' services include:
- UXO re-acquisition and identification services;
- High and low order UXO disposal services;
- Unmanned remote ordnance lifting system or the safe and effective movement of UXO outside of the project worksite;
- Mobilization and supply of offshore UXO spreads;
- Personnel for the completion of near-shore and offshore scopes using diver or ROV intervention as required;
- A fleet of fast response support craft including specialist daughter craft;
- Provision of multi-role, multi-purpose vessels to support UXO operations and boulder clearances; and
- Project documentation, reporting and management.
PG Renewables says it aims to enable the construction of offshore infrastructure for the advancement of the global energy transition while safeguarding the marine environment.
In the UXO space, the PG Renewables team says it has successfully completed more than 10 wind farm and five subsea infrastructure projects to date without incident.
PG Renewables is a sister company to Pritchard-Gordon Tankers, a British-owned, private company operating in the marine environment that specializes in the transportation of crude oil, refined petroleum products, chemicals and biofuels.
