HOUSTON – Waste management specialist TWMA has won its first offshore processing project in West Africa.
The 400-day contract involves supply of services to support Glencore Exploration Cameroon’s drilling campaign.
Scope of work includes installation of a TWMA TCC RotoMill and cuttings collection and distribution system. This will provide a comprehensive containment, treatment and disposal solution for capturing drill cuttings and associated fluids onboard theAtwood Aurora jackup.
TWMA operators are managing the project on location. The company says that operators new to West Africa have to consider ways of reducing the environmental impact of disposed drill cuttings. TWMA’s approach is to treat all non-aqueous base fluid drill cuttings via thermal desorption, recovering 99% of base oil for re-use by the operator.
The inert rock powder and recovered water are disposed overboard for sea dispersal, in a process the company claims has a near-zero impact on the environment.
“The size of the rig combined with deck loading restrictions and a very tight design cycle made this a very interesting and challenging project from the outset,” said Kyle Duncan, TWMA project engineer for the Glencore installation. “In order to meet the project deadlines, TWMA’s engineering team traveled to Houston to complete a fasttrack FEED phase with the client.”
After completing the preliminary design, TWMA delivered a full engineering design package within three weeks in order to obtain the client’s approval prior to mobilization.
