BRISTOL, UK – Rovco has secured funding from Britain’s innovation agency Innovate UK to further develop its integrated live 3D vision and artificial intelligence (AI) survey technology.
The next-stage program, AUV3D Phase 2, will build on results from the Phase 1 project and trials that are said to have proved the effectiveness of the technology at the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult’s test center.
In collaboration with ORE Catapult and ScottishPower Renewables, the funding will support additional research over an 18-month period through application of machine learning and AI-based analysis to 3D survey and cable burial data.
Rovco is seeking to achieve live transmission of 3D subsea models to shore. The technology, which is said to employ advanced computer vision and AI systems with ROV platforms, could transform the way offshore inspections are performed, the company added, potentially cutting costs by millions of dollars each year.
