SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy – Production from the Zohr field in the deepwater Egyptian sector of the Mediterranean Sea has now reached 2 bcf/d of gas.
According to operator Eni, this milestone is a year ahead of the schedule detailed in the original plan of development.
It follows start-up of the field’s fifth production unit (T4), supported by eight gas production wells and a new 30-in., 218-km (135-mi) pipeline, commissioned last month.
Eni, its partner, Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Co. (EGAS) and their joint venture company Petrobel aim to reach a plateau of above 2.7 bcf/d in 2019.
Zohr is Egypt and the Mediterranean’s largest gas discovery to date, with more than 30 tcf in place. The location is in the offshore Shorouk block, 190 km (118 mi) north of Port Said.
Other partners in Shorouk are Rosneft, BP, and Mubadala Petroleum.
Petrobel executes the project on behalf of Petroshorouk, jointly held by contractor (Eni and its partners) and EGAS.
