Offshore staff
HELSINKI, Finland – Preparations are due to start soon for installation of the Balticconnector project’s offshore gas pipeline through the Gulf of Finland.
This will initially entail protective measures in the location of cables and the twin Nord Stream 1 gas lines on the seabed.
Next month excavation work will start on the shores of Paldiski where the offshore pipeline enters Estonian territorial waters, and at the turn of July and August, the focus will be on excavation in the Fjusö area in Inkoo, where the pipeline will make landfall in Finland.
Concurrently management will commission environmental monitoring and fishery investigations on the impact of the offshore pipeline. Constant monitoring will allow action to be taken if any deviations from natural conditions are detected during the work.
Baltic Connector Oy is a state-owned company set up in 2015 to implement the Finnish part of the Balticconnector pipeline to be built between Finland and Estonia, transporting gas from fields offshore Norway. This will connect the gas networks of Finland and the Baltic countries and enable the opening of the gas market in Finland.
The EU has granted funding to cover 75% of the project, and the pipeline is due to be completed by 2020.
