OSLO, Norway – Equinor has received authorization from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate for continued use of the Oseberg Øst facility in the northern Norwegian North Sea until end-March 2031.
This will give Equinor sufficient time to recover remaining resources – the original permit was due to expire in 2018.
Oseberg Øst is 15 km (9.3 mi) east of theOseberg field, where production started in 1999.
Original oil reserves were estimated at 167 MMbbl: Equinor assesses remaining resources at 31 MMbbl.
The field was developed with an integrated fixed platform with living quarters, a drilling module and with facilities for separation of oil, water, and gas.
Oil is transported by pipeline to the Oseberg field center for further treatment and delivery via the Oseberg transport system to the Sture terminal in Hordaland County, western Norway.
The gas is used mainly for injection and power generation on the installation.
Aker BP has approval from Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority to use the semisubDeepsea Stavanger to drill well 4/6-B-6 on the Alvheim field in the central Norwegian North Sea, close to the median line with the UK sector.
Water depth in the area is around 124 m (407 ft).
