HOUSTONStatoil and Aker Solutions have contracted Baker Hughes, a GE company to provide turbomachinery equipment for the topsides of the Johan Castberg FPSO in the Barents Sea.

As part of BHGE’s global frame agreement with Statoil, the company will supply an integrated technology configuration that will include a module solution specifically developed and pre-assembled to help Statoil reduce the number of interfaces at the installation site.

This should cut risk during the engineering execution and construction phases.

BHGE’s scope includes two gas turbine generators with LM2500+ G4 dry low emission and dual fuel capability, coupled with two poles electric generators.

Each gas turbine generator train will feature a waste heat recovery unit on its exhaust system to allow energy from the turbine fumes to be recovered to maximize efficiency.

BHGE will also deliver Balance of Plant auxiliaries related to the gas turbines and the waste recovery units.

All will be tested and pre-assembled into three industrial modules at BHGE’s Turbomachinery & Process Solutions centers at Massa and Avenza in Italy.

The modules will then be shipped by Statoil in late 2019 to Singapore for final integration on the FPSO topsides.

The shipment of the modules is targeted for 4Q 2019. First oil fromJohan Castberg is scheduled for 2022.
