GODALMING, UK – Hurricane Energy has issued an update on the boulder relocation program at the site of the Lancaster oilfield early production system (EPS) development west of Shetland.
To limit the anticipated 2018 installation and execution risk, Hurricane had last year asked main contractorTechnipFMC to accelerate the campaign.
Site surveys have identified boulders close to the site of the EPS subsea infrastructure, and which therefore needed to be moved.
TechnipFMC contracted theFar Superior vessel, completing the planned work scope last November.
Installation operatorBluewater Energy Services and DNV GL have reviewed the results, and have concluded that the seabed condition is now acceptable for installation of the mooring system, taking into account the rocky soil conditions.
A further boulder relocation exercise will not now be needed prior to the start of subsea installation operations during 2Q-3Q 2018. However, should further boulders be encountered during operations, these will be relocated, as required.
