LYSAKER, Norway – Statoil has contracted Aker Solutions to provide subsea production systems and services for the Askeladd and Troll Phase 3 gas developments offshore Norway.
The packages, with a total estimated value of NOK1.5-2 billion ($190-254 million) comprise two manifolds and four subsea trees for Askeladd in the Barents Sea, tying into the Snøhvit export system to the LNG processing plant at Melkøya, close to Hammerfest; and two manifolds and nine trees for the Troll development in the North Sea.
In both cases, the scope includes installation and commissioning support. Final deliveries are due during 2020.
Statoil said the Snøhvit partnership planned to take a final investment decision for Askeladd in March. Under an agreement with the Norwegian authorities it will not be necessary to submit a new plan for development and operation (PDO) for approval, as the project will be part of the existing PDO for the Snøhvit field.
The Troll partnership plans to take an investment decision and submit the PDO this summer, which Norway’s government will need to approve.
Aker Solutions CEO Luis Araujo said: “We expect to generate significant synergies by building on our work on another major ongoing Statoil project, the delivery of the subsea production system for theJohan Castberg field in the Barents Sea.”
The company’s plants in Norway, Brazil, the UK and Malaysia, will all be involved. The facilities in Ågotnes on the west coast of Norway and in Hammerfest, northern Norway, will provide the subsea services for both projects.
Askeladd, discovered in 1981, comprises the North, South, Gamma and West segments. The development is part of the PDO for Snøhvit LNG, which was approved in 2002.
The field is in 250 m (820 ft) of water, 40 km (25 mi) from the existing Snøhvit development, which is 140 km (87 mi) northwest of Hammerfest. Statoil plans to drill three wells, one in each of the North, South and Gamma segments, with production starting in 3Q 2020.
Troll Phase 3 covers development of gas in the western part of theTroll field, 60 km (37 mi) west of Sognefjorden in 330 m (1,082 ft) of water, and around 25 km (15.5 mi) northwest of the Troll A platform.
Development calls for a subsea development system comprising two four-slot subsea templates with eight production wells, tied in to Troll A.
The facilities will be powered from shore supplied via Troll A, with start-up scheduled for 2Q 2021.
