OSLO, Norway – Maersk Drilling has contracted Aker Solutions to modify the production module on the jackup Mærsk Inspirer.

Repsol plans to use the rig, previously deployed by Statoil for production at theVolve field, for the Yme oil field redevelopment in the eastern Norwegian North Sea.

Statoil, the original developer, closed Yme prematurely in 2001 after five years of production, again through ajackup platform.

Subsequently Talisman Energy attempted a redevelopment via a newbuild jackup built in the UAE, but this turned out to be structurally unsound and had to be removed from the field location.

Aker Solutions has started work on the NOK1-billion ($119-million) project, with the company’s branch in Stavanger managing engineering and procurement, and its yard in Egersund handling fabrication.

Following modifications to the module, theMærsk Inspirer should operate for five to 10 years at Yme.
