German power utility EnBW has contracted North Star to provide a commissioning service operation vessel (SOV) for the He Dreiht wind farm development in the German North Sea.
The award for the newbuild, Vard 4 22-design Grampian Kestrel will precede the long-term charter contract North Star signed in February to provide a Vard 407-design SOV for the same project.
He Dreiht, 90 km northwest of the island of Borkum and 110 km west of Helgoland, will have a total installed output of 960 MW. From the end of 2025, 64 15-MW wind turbines will be connected to Germany’s grid.
Grampian Kestrel will provide accommodation and logistics to support the construction and commissioning phases in 2025, after which it will lead EnBW’s operations and maintenance activities until the newbuild SOV is delivered in summer 2026.
