Excelerate FSRUs to be fitted with Wärtsilä reliquefaction modules

Wärtsilä Gas Solutions will supply reliquefaction systems for retrofitting onboard floating storage regasification units (FSRUs) owned by Excelerate Energy, according to a Sept. 20 press release.

The Compact Reliq Double units are based on the reversed Brayton cycle technology. This is designed to reliquefy boil-off gas and return it back to the cargo tanks, avoiding emissions and saving cargo at the same time.

Other features of the delivery are technology and applications said to minimize maintenance and operational costs.

Wärtsilä will start deliveries in early 2026.
