OSLO, Norway – Statoil has Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway’s approval to withdraw the emergency response vessel that has served the Snorre A TLP in the northern Norwegian North Sea.
The Snorre field in the Tampen area has been developed via, Snorre A, at the south of the field, and the semisubmersibleSnorre B, in the north.
Snorre A, which provides accommodation, drilling and processing, started operating in 1992. The emergency response vessel provided fire fighting capability and has contributed to MOB (man over board) response.
However, Statoil has an established area emergency response scheme in the Tampen area, based on an SAR helicopter and an area response vessel, and claims operations will be impacted by the removal of Snorre A’s vessel.
To compensate for the withdrawal, the PSA requested that Statoil implement passive fire protection and a redundant MOB boat system at Snorre A.
