PASIR GUDANG, MalaysiaMISC Berhad has started conversion of the Aframax tanker Bunga Kelena 5 to the FSOBenchamas 2 for operator Chevron Offshore (Thailand).

The vessel, built in March 1999, is currently 105,400 dwt and can store around 750,000 metric tons (115,743 tons) of crude oil.

It was chosen for the conversion due to features that allow for technical upgrades and integrations to fit the weather conditions at theBenchamas field in the Gulf of Thailand.

MISC secured the $230-million contract through an international competitive bidding process: it is its first foray into Thailand’s offshore oil and gas industry.

The completed FSOBenchamas 2 is expected to be ready for sail away in 1Q 2018.
